Why Augmented Reality is a Digital Rights Issue AccessNow Link

The main thing that stood out to me about people’s concerns with AR apps and glasses, especially in public spaces, are that the things they are worried about already exist — various apps how allowed you to write text and create drawings overlayed on the real world. Pretty much no one except for other people who may discover the app will see them. “Virtual space” feels very fake to me — it does not really effect how people live their physical lives, and until AR goggles/glasses actually become mainstream, which could be 10-20 years or more away, I don’t think this will be a particular issue. Especially concerning the inside of private homes, people have had cameras and have been digitally uploading pictures from inside their private spaces for years. The concepts covered in this article are nothing new, and I think become more of a scare tactic when presented to the general public at this point than a productive conversation on personal data.
