Animated Gifs - Using Stop Motion Studio, create 2 stop motion loops inspired by http://www.gifparanoia.org.

- Write a blog post with the documentation of the process and final results.
Worked with Queenie to produce the following two stop motion animation gifs. We liked the idea of playing with Halloween themed objects and stories, since Halloween is just around the corner. Armed with a couple of props, cardboard, printer paper, and a small, phone-sized tripod, we made the following GIFs.
GIF 1 - Jack-’o-lantern just looking for love
- Idea one is to play with a real pumpkin and a fake pumpkin, and explore how hard it is to find love.
- For the real pumpkin, we used white paper to create expressive faces and show emotions. For the fake, plastic pumpkin, we drew a basic jack-’o-lantern face on it. We also added a white paper moon to show motion as our pumpkins move about the scene.
- We shot the frames in the Stop Motion Studio app on my iPhone 13, and then exported the video to the Adobe Express website where you can export as a GIF.
Not sure why my Notion is rejecting the GIF format… It’s working on Queenie’s blog I need to look into this.
GIF 2 - Hand? Or Skeleton?
- Idea two was to play with the idea of a slider. We had a skeleton hand from Queenie’s PComp midterm that we wanted to use, and liked the idea of opening and closing a human hand that would then turn into the skeleton. For this, we only actually shot the frames of a hand opening and closing once in the Stop Motion Studio app on my iPhone 13, and then used iMovie to quickly repeat the action a couple of times. After editing, we uploaded it to the Adobe Express website to export as a GIF.
Again, the GIFs are running on repeat on Queenie’s Notion blog so not sure why they’re not here.
Our working space was pretty simple - a basic set up on one of the tables on the ITP floor:
