Creative Brief: For this challenge, we are inspired by topics like physicality, connectedness, shared space, and celebration. We’re looking for a strong conceptual design that communicates the ITP/IMA ethos. We would like to see the more humanistic side of our community and less wires, breadboards, and LEDs. A successful poster will offer a compelling visual in harmony with all the requisite textual information.

Thinking about how I could incorporate VR or some tech aspect while keeping the human aspects of the user in focus. The bottom left corner was inspired by The Great Gatsby book cover design.
I decided to start playing with the Gatsby-Eye theme for my poster design. I liked the concept of a straight on view of a person in a VR headset, as usually when you see people wearing them, its from a distance so you can see their body moving and reacting. It’s so difficult to capture what the viewer is actually seeing in their headset while they’re wearing it. I considered finding art online for this, but was not finding anything I wanted to use, so I pulled out my camera and took this picture of myself.
I wanted a festive font for this poster because the show is happening during the holiday season. However, none of them ended up feeling thematically appropriate for an immersive art and technology showcase. I ended up changing the font to something a bit stronger and bolder to really grab the viewer’s attention.
I also got feedback from my classmates that the black box around the text at the bottom of the poster felt a bit strong, so I ended up lowering the opacity to allow more of the photograph behind it to fill the entire space.
